Issues with 8K display problems!
There’s no evidence suggesting a card can produce an 8K60 desktop image. It likely points to a faulty connection. At the peak bandwidth limit for HDMI 2.1, the cable quality becomes crucial. Opt for a premium "Ultra High Speed" product from trusted brands like Club3D or Cable Matters.
I accidentally clicked on a post. I didn't mean to say it can't produce 8K. It's simply not the best setting for that.
I believe the setup is going smoothly. The AMD control panel now offers a setting to adjust chroma subsampling. I changed it to 4:2:0 and it hasn’t altered in the past 30 minutes, suggesting 4:2:2 might have been limited by available bandwidth.
I don't personally use Gridplayer, but it offers an option to restrict video memory usage. With a 4GB RAM system like the RX6400, you might need to manage resources carefully. Could you provide details about your computer? Your processor could also assist the graphics card in optimizing performance for your needs.
16GB processor with 3200/4600 series chip runs nearly silent, GPU usage sits around half. Grid performance remains strong across many streams. Qnap QVR Pro achieves full GPU utilization and delivers 4 FPS at 8K resolution.
The main idea is that the card works with 8K60 displays by design, so using it as a standard display at that resolution shouldn’t cause problems. Claiming it’s not ideal for 8K60 is irrelevant if the specs confirm support. It’s not about performance for gaming or heavy tasks—just meeting the stated capabilities. OP mentioned it’s now functioning properly, which suggests focusing on relevant feedback rather than unrelated comments.
The 4600G can decode live while the rx6400 just displays the video. Have you tried using the software rendering feature to test? I’m hoping reducing the subsampling will help. EDIT: A quick last-minute suggestion—since the Grid player works on multiple platforms, running it under Linux might run more smoothly?
Check the details of the RX6400. I have one myself, and it performs well in 1080p. It's a budget option. The card supports PCIe 4.0x4 but starts to show issues at 1440p.
