Issues encountered during the upgrade process for i5-4690K
I needed to lower my MEI and chipset settings for the Windows BIOS update, which allowed my i5 to function properly afterward.
Hello, in 2020 I wanted to explain my situation. The issue involves H81M-C with the previous BIOS (3602) and an i7 4790K processor. The problem lies with the chipset, which needs updating as well. You must flash it using W7/8 because you require the old Intel Management Engine Interface V9.0.0.1287 available on the Asus support site. After installing the previous Intel MEI, use the "BIOS updater for New 4th Gen Intel Core Processors" and press YES. Flash with the latest BIOS even if it’s already installed. Flashing from within the BIOS won’t work; only from W7/8 is possible (W10 not supported). In the end, the BIOS gets updated successfully, and the chipset update resolves the matter.
your motherboard isn't H81M but an ASUS Z87-K. i've encountered the same issue. after testing, i installed windows 10 with the old MEI 9.0.1287 driver and a Celeron G1820 processor. i updated the bios to version 1402 via asus's update tool for the 4th gen chipset. when restarting, windows 10 displayed an error and refused to launch again. i removed the Celeron and tried the I5 4690k, but it didn't work. i'm stuck and need to use windows 7. should i install a specific chipset driver version?
Successfully handled the process on Windows 10 using the Intel Management Interface driver V9.5.15 for older versions. The installer reported issues at the end, but the "BIOS updater" tool finally launched and managed to update BIOS 3206. The system then booted with an i5-4690 processor. Previous attempts via BIOS updates or AI Suite software didn't work. After BIOS update, the CPU wasn't recognized initially.
