Issues arising from crashes during specific gameplay following a CPU upgrade.
Hey everyone, I just upgraded my friend's CPU from a Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 9 5900x. Since then, games haven't been working well. He's experienced crashes in certain titles without any error messages. When the system freezes, fans spin but the monitor shows no signal or input. We've tried reinstalling and updating GPU drivers using DDU, resetting the CMOS, and even swapped out the power supply to a higher wattage. The games that keep crashing are Fortnite, Crusader Kings 3, Cities Skylines 2, and Starfield. Recently he got Alan Wake 2 and it's running smoothly, though other games still tend to cause issues. His setup includes: CPU - Ryzen 9 5900x, GPU - Zotak RTX 4070, Motherboard - MSI B450 Tomahawk, RAM - 16GB DDR4, Corsair VENGEANCE 3000MHz, PSU - MSI MPG A850G (850W). I've also attached a video of the problem; any advice would be greatly appreciated. IMG_0184.mov
The motherboard requires a current BIOS version to function properly with the CPU. Have you verified that it’s fully updated? It’s unlikely to start at all without it, but you should confirm.
Did you verify the temperatures during gameplay and adjust any overclocking settings?
No, you didn't remove the plastic cover on the cooler during the CPU installation.
It seems like the issue might not be with the CPU. There could be a GPU or power supply problem. You might want to swap the PSU and check if that resolves the problem.
