I recently cleaned my PC that had been idle for several months, reassembled it, and tried turning it on. It doesn’t power up at all—no response when pressing the power button or attempting a jump. I’ve checked everything: all cables are securely connected, the PSU is functioning, performed a paper clip test, and confirmed voltages match the motherboard manual. I’ve cleared CMOS, replaced the CMOS battery, and even tried jumping the motherboard. System configuration details are as follows: Motherboard model MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon, RAM GSKILL DDR4 8 GB x 2, PSU Cooler Master V750W Gold Plus, CPU i5 7600K. I only switched it on after cleaning. Any guidance to resolve this issue would be invaluable.
Check for any capacitors that might have been damaged during cleaning. Verify if all case headers are positioned correctly according to the manual. The issue with jumping the MOBI may not be related to LEDs; consider if a replacement is needed. You might want to try a replacement motherboard if that’s an option. Good luck!
No components were damaged during the cleaning process, everything appears correctly positioned. There are no blown capacitors or other issues. The case headers are placed properly, there are no LED indicators, and the system doesn’t power on with lights. Unfortunately, returning a replacement part isn’t available here.
While cleaning carefully (cleaning ?!), if you didn't notice anything unusual (smell, spark, noise), I think your MB is okay and you probably missed something. Edit: Jumping MB, pins 6 and 8, right? PSU switched ON? 24 pin connector fully in and 8 pin connector also on both sides, plus the PSU side on the right connector? Updated May 24, 2023 by leclod
I took great care throughout the process. I gently cleared away dust using light strokes and reapplied thermal paste to the CPU. There were no unusual occurrences. My main concern is identifying the faulty component so I can order a replacement confidently before making the purchase.
Jumping MB, pins 6 and 8, correct? PSU is turned ON? The 24 pin connector is fully inserted in and the 8 pin connector is also on both sides, including the PSU side? An idea from kb5zue: I own an Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming board and faced similar issues a few months back. It turned out to be a simple fix. For an unknown reason, the two pin contacts on the motherboard for the power switch were corroded. I cleaned them using a fingernail file I borrowed from my wife, brushing all four sides carefully. After that, I soaked a q-tip in 90% isopropyl alcohol and cleaned the pins to remove any dust. While working on the case, I performed a thorough blow-out with my air compressor, being careful not to dislodge anything. Done! Everything functions perfectly now. Edited May 24, 2023 by leclod
