I’m working on assembling a PfSense router from an old Dell PowerEdge R210 II. I previously installed PfSense once without success, but managed to create a bootable USB with the latest version and attempted to replace the older installer. Unfortunately, the device now shows no bootable PfSense version, even though it still recognizes the SSD. This is confusing because I suspect the old installation might not have been fully removed. I’ve followed some guides, but they don’t provide detailed instructions on navigating the installer or selecting the correct partition mode. Could you assist?

I would begin by reviewing and removing or replacing any RAID setup on your SSD, or simply erasing the drive if you prefer, then attempt the installation. This is my first-time experience with PFSSense; I received a Dell PowerEdge R610 recently for it, and everything worked smoothly, so that’s the best guidance I can offer.

Begin the setup process and when prompted, pick "Manual." Then identify your disk. In the image my disk is named "da0" with three partitions available. Once selected, use arrow keys to choose "Delete," press Enter to erase all partitions on that disk. After that, go to the "Finish" option and confirm your intent. Next, select "Auto ZFS"—it offers a far superior alternative to UFS, reducing corruption risks—and continue with the installation.

Also ignore the ZFS setting—just apply the standard options for one drive.

I kept your instructions in mind, started with Manual Partition and selected GPT as shown in your image since there was no ZFS option available. I realized you also need two drives for ZFS setup. When I pick GPT partitions I encountered the message "No root partition was found. The root pfSense partition must have a mountpoint of '/'.

Perform the necessary auto-partitioning to remove old entries without creating new ones. Choose "Auto (ZFS)", select the pool as stripe for one disk, designate the target disk, and let it automatically partition and install.

You're experiencing trouble accessing the Web Interface of PfSense after installation on your internal hard drive. It seems the issue might be related to the default IP address assigned during setup. Let's walk through changing it step by step. If this helps, feel free to ask for further assistance.

No, I didn't follow the setup steps to configure the WAN and LAN ports after the initial boot.

Confirm your connection is on the right Ethernet interface and check if a dynamic IP is being provided by DHCP.
