Issue with PC not posting and VGA light active when using igpu.
Hello, I’m having trouble getting my PC to boot after assembly. Once I placed the motherboard in the case, I could access the BIOS, but after connecting everything, the VGA LED stays lit and it doesn’t power up. Even after removing all components and trying again, the issue persists. My setup includes a Z790 Aorus Elite Ax board, an i7-14700K CPU, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM (2x48), and an XPG Core Reactor 2 PSU. I’ve updated the BIOS via Quick Flash, cleared CMOS, used just one RAM stick, unplugged everything from the PSU, and then connected it to a working GPU—still no success. The monitor is linked via HDMI and plugged into the motherboard. When I tested with an old GPU, the problem disappeared.
Was the installation of the motherboard into the case simple and smooth? No pressure was needed. I’d inspect the back panel to confirm all connections are secure. If the board performed well during bench testing before mounting, it might have been damaged or fried during installation. Removing it and re-testing would likely reveal the issue.
No, I'm not employing any risers or an atypical/unconventional setup.
I rearranged it until it fit perfectly, matching the standoff count to the motherboard. The back panel didn’t show any unusual features.
I wonder if a faulty ground in the setup might lead to problems, even if rare. Some posting difficulties can stem from poor contact with the pins—whether it's due to the CPU being accidentally over-torqued during an uneven cooler fit, factory ILM adjustments, or a third-party frame not installed correctly. Essentially, re-seat the CPU and ensure everything is snug and aligned symmetrically. Look for any bent pins in the CPU socket.
The cpu pins looked fine, I took it all apart and reseated the cpu, cooler, and ram and plugged them into the psu. Same problem with the vga light, is it possible the motherboard is faulty? I did have problems getting it to post the first time, but after trying repeatedly without changing anything it was reliably getting to the bios.
Always feasible, just like with the CPU, but checking the QC on CPUs is significantly more rigorous than on motherboards. It could be useful to take it out of the case and test whether it boots under the same circumstances previously. If it does, then either the motherboard headers or the case might have a defect—such as a damaged ground connection or defective cables.
I apologize, I should have mentioned that I removed it from the case and took off the components before reassembling it the same way, yet it didn’t post.
Have you explored alternative connections on the motherboard? The HDMI port or cable might be faulty.
