I own two HTPCs that I probably won’t switch to Windows 10 since I can’t get rid of Windows Media Center. I mainly use them as a way to connect my TV to music, and Kodi doesn’t really stand out.
It's tough to accept... with all the plugins Kodi offers, it really stands out.
The method for displaying albums and artists is exceptional when compared to what I've experienced with Kodi. The Now playing interface, which is essential for my needs, looks quite appealing (http://blog.retrosight.com/content/image...laying.png). While lounging on the couch at my beach house, I frequently ask my family for music recommendations. Often, my Uncle points to an album in the background and says, 'Bring that album up.' I truly depend on it. And let's not forget how useful my Media Center Remote app is for both Windows and Windows Phone...
These files work well for local or network playback—they actually perform better since they import metadata from file names. For real live TV, they simply can't match WMC's simplicity and ease of use. I usually run WMC on my desktop to watch TV, save shows to a folder, then encode them with Handbrake into a format XBMC understands. I use XBMC as the interface on the TV. Anything missing must go through the same process using flexget and an RSS feed, just like with Blu-ray rips—mostly with minimal effort from me.
