I'm considering upgrading my HP Elitebook 8530p to Windows 10. The main concern is that Windows 7 Ultimate is hard to find these days, so I want to know if Windows 10 offers significant improvements. My machine has a dual-core Intel Centino CPU, 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM, and runs smoothly on Windows 7.

Needs about 4GB of RAM. An SSD would definitely assist, though 10 GB of RAM would be much better. Yes, 10 is certainly quicker than 7.

Intel Centeno isn't an unannounced chip. You can revert to Windows 7 once you've upgraded.

It would be smarter to use Linux on that device, unless your tasks require features only found on Windows.

Windows 7 Ultimate is pretty much the same as Professional unless you really need all those language packs. For Windows 10, the main issue is losing WMC—the only good (free) TV software I know of. Without it, I’d probably upgrade, but since Microsoft seems to prioritize Xbox over a media center, I’m stuck with 7 for now. On a laptop it might not be a big deal, but keep that in mind later.

Animations could feel a bit sluggish, yet Windows 10 leans heavily on them, making it less ideal. However, meeting the basic requirements should keep you comfortable. Windows 10 can revitalize your laptop if you have the right specs.

It runs smoother than Windows 7. You have 16 gigabytes of RAM and an i5 3570K processor. Also, check if HP provides drivers for your device.

Centrino refers to the features in Core 2 Duo processors. It’s likely to enhance performance and is a good upgrade option.
