The 11th generation is restricted to 8 cores, so I wouldn't go that far. I also wouldn't risk the early DDR5 version. I'm working on a 5950x upgrade to swap in an 8600k build—no worries about what's coming next. I still recall first-gen DDR2, DDR3, and DDR4, which were pretty rough.

It matters because newer chips use different connectors, which affects compatibility. The older generation won’t work with them anymore. Upgrading might be necessary soon.

new developments keep coming up, but early versions of memory adaptation have always had issues or run slower due to timing problems. The 11th-gen Intel chips won't significantly outperform Zen 3. Right now, that's the only thing that matters, especially when tasks require more than eight cores.

I’d choose the 5900X personally, though Intel might reclaim the gaming title for the 11th generation. The power and heat demands could be a challenge for them, especially with their current node. Even if they win back the crown, it’s likely to be a narrow victory. AMD is expected to reclaim it again with the 6000 series. There isn’t a strong reason to buy Intel right now unless you’re looking for an unusual offer. If your system handles many cores—like in simulation or design work—it shines. The i9 line is aimed at power users and heavy multitaskers. I think Intel is currently limited by its 14nm technology, which restricts their options. For the 11th gen, I anticipate they’ll catch up on single-core speed but likely lose ground in multicore scenarios. My experience shows I rely on multiple threads for tasks such as CAD or file compression, often running many processes at once. When performance dips, I push all cores to their limit briefly. For gaming, keep in mind that new consoles use 8-core Zen 2 chips, so expect more titles leveraging that parallel processing. Generally, a gaming PC should match the latest console generation; otherwise, it may underperform. This applies to i9 models but could affect i5/i7 as well.

When running at 4800MT/s under extremely poor conditions (common for the original release), even 3200 with solid speeds will surpass it. We've experienced this with DDR2, DDR3, and DDR4. It's not worth suggesting any early generation RAM before its official launch.
