I'm really interested in WvW. 5v5 feels similar to LoL, so I'm not interested. I'm curious about seeing groups of players battle... Can I possibly reach Fort Aspenwood, then do PVE and immediately jump into WvW? If it costs money to switch servers, shouldn't I just go there right away? Also, did you mean "mid tier"? Isn't higher tier more intense?

You select the same server each time you log in and act as that server for WvW. Switching servers incurs fees you can pay with cash or gold. For PvE, it seems all servers in a region are merged (NA or EU), allowing you to interact with players on other servers.

The world is noticeably improved compared to the last season. However, now you'll need to pay for each episode to access it, as I suspect you haven't been logging in during the updates to earn it for free. There have been modifications, but I'm not sure what you're aiming to discover. I don't believe the changes described are significant enough to spark your interest if you weren't already engaged. Personally, I find farming, living worlds, and PvE activities enjoyable. As a free-to-play MMO, it serves as my downtime when I want to play.

From my observations, the chaotic guild versus guild battles are concentrated in mid-tier ranks. They tend to enter the meta quicker than those in higher levels. I haven’t updated my rankings recently, but Fort Aspenwood is now ranked fifth and climbing toward fourth. I once believed they were among the elite, with many of my dedicated WvW players joining them. It’s not suitable for beginners. You need a particular build, class, and the ability to communicate effectively—microphones are essential. I’d recommend checking out my server at Gate of Madness. We’ve made significant progress since I was a WvW commander; we topped the tourney for tier 3. I played a key role in leading the team. Currently we sit at rank 12 and are steadily improving after overcoming rank 10 this week. Our community is very close-knit, with many players focused on PvE in guild wars 2. We’ve shifted from being the second server to a core group of dedicated guilds. GvG is active on our server. I’ve logged over 2000 hours in WvW and accumulated more than 1000 commands. If you’re interested, I suggest joining my server. High-end graphics aren’t ideal when dozens of players battle at high settings—the performance suffers greatly, even on powerful GPUs. The optimization isn’t great, and the exchange rates are poor. Farming might be more reliable. Mega servers that bring everyone together often fall out of favor. The Living World has changed too—players now focus more on the Living World rather than expansions. I’d love to see them return with new content, but right now it feels like a disappointing shift. PvE in guild wars 2 could have been better, but I’m not holding my breath.

I will see which server let's me get in. I will have to rush trought a couple of MMOs in a short time so I will try to level quickly. Also, you said the game is not optimized well - but I will be with a GTX 980 overclocked so won't that be enough? It's the fastest single gpu on the planet after all. I won't be keeping it for long though cuz I am waiting for the actual GM200 fully unlocked - that would help me run games on 4K like a dream.

It’s not about the graphics card. It’s more about having too many players visible on the screen. Even with ultra settings, you’ll likely experience low frame rates if everything is active. This seems to stem from the game engine limitations rather than hardware issues. When the server is packed and you’re engaged in a boss fight or a big battle, performance drops significantly. Could you share your current FPS? Otherwise, a 980 is more than sufficient for guild wars 2. I’d suggest keeping settings low to mid during intense scenes, but if you manage to hit over 100 FPS, try going high. For WvW, every frame matters because the game supports unlimited player models, so your GPU must render everyone, even at a distance. Battles can involve hundreds of players simultaneously. It’s especially noticeable during resets, like on Stonemist, where servers clash and high-end players may wait over five hours. On lower-tier servers, waiting is less of an issue, but patience pays off if you enjoy the experience. You’re free to join any server except the fully loaded ones. Your skill influences which guild recruits you, and you can play WvW at level 1 for upscaling. In PvE, level 80 can boost your stats since the game scales down to your level, though it won’t change all stats—just exotic ones. Ultimately, once you reach full legendary status, only cosmetic changes occur; real stat adjustments require exotic items. Mostly, focus on exotics and choosing your gear. Once you hit level 80, it’s mainly about appearance.

I often hear this, but is the game really requiring new races or classes? Which characters would fill gaps not already covered? I’d love to see an expansion that expands the world a bit more. Right now, it’s hard to find any new role that adds real value. GW2 is dominated by CPU usage, making it tough to achieve smooth performance even with powerful hardware. It struggles with 60 FPS zerg battles, which seems unrealistic. A GTX 980 would run smoothly at high settings and offer little visual improvement. The graphics are decent for its time, but the tech back then wasn’t impressive.

They could add the Tengu. In the making of GW 2 book they even said the Tengu was going to be in the game but they took it out at the last second. Also if they made the Kodan a playable race. They could add Dervish for the next class but that might already be included in some classes now. Always room for improvement. Also the reward for playing Living world is mainly skins and some dungeons. Sucks about the Cpu and gpu aspect of that engine but unless they come out with a new engine which wont happen. I don't see a problem with my gtx 680. Like you said for huge zerg fights it will hit your pc and drop the fps. Anyways most pro players play on low setting for WvW. Zerg busting is what I specialize in. Being from a small WvW server like Gate of Madness. We were outnumbered but never out gunned. One of the best fights I had was taking my small 15 person guild and beating over 100 in the battle for a fully upgraded stonemist which was not held by us. Fighting 2 servers at the same time while holding the middle. One of the best fights. I love WvW a lot. Red Guard videos helped me with zerg busting.

It seems a 6-core Haswell Extreme at 4.5 GHz might still face performance issues. You're probably thinking about whether it's worth the effort. The question of what "zerg" means is a bit unclear, but it seems you're curious about joining an EU server for the WvW. Are there players there?

By a zerg I mean huge groups of players, often 50+ (which may become 100 if you're fighting another 50). I haven't heard of anyone actually using a Haswell-E processor in that game this I can ask, but since the benefits of Haswell-E will be roundly ignored by the game I don't see why it would make much difference. It's an issue of terrible optimization. I actually haven't heard of many network-related issues for people, unless the servers are undergoing maintenance or some unusual issue. My NA guild has players from the UK, Australia/NZ and one guy from Hong Kong, and I never hear of them having any trouble. On my system, most of the video settings don't seem to help, because my GTX 770 is usually half-asleep in this game even at max detail. Since the performance becomes so aggressively CPU-bound, the only thing that seems to help much is reducing the character model limit so the game draws fewer players, but at least for me it doesn't go low enough to actually resolve it completely.
