Is the upgrade worth it for a value between 8400 and 9700k?
Is the upgrade worth it for a value between 8400 and 9700k?
Hey! I’ve been considering upgrading from my 8400 to a 9700k. Could that extend my system’s lifespan by another couple of years? I have a 750W EVGA PSU and a 1650 motherboard, running MSI Z370 A Pro. My usage is mostly schoolwork, medium to intense gaming, and regular VR. I saw the 9700k is selling for about $260 on Amazon. Do you think it’s a good investment?
It seems like you're trying to gauge the ideal price for a 9700k based on market conditions. Let's break it down and consider what factors might influence that decision.
This looks like a promising upgrade option. I’d keep the cost under about $200, but even that would mean getting a 10600K—probably needing a different motherboard. You might be able to locate a used one for a reasonable price. It seems they’re selling around $200 on eBay, which isn’t too high.
Since you don’t have a dedicated CPU, it makes sense to invest in the 9700 without a K-cpu. A K-cpu isn’t necessary unless you want to boost performance through overclocking or undervolting.
