Is it still worth getting Star Citizen early?
Is it still worth getting Star Citizen early?
Since its release, I've really enjoyed the appearance of SC. I'm curious about whether it's still worth being an early adopter. I'm considering purchasing the $40 pack with beta access. What benefits will that provide? What options are currently available? I've heard dogfighting is in development as well. Can new ships be acquired later? And how long would it take to save enough to buy one, if anyone can share that information now?
Could you clarify if you're concerned about being at a disadvantage? I want to make sure I understand your perspective on the situation.
I don’t believe we can accurately predict the game’s direction at the moment, so I’m completely unsure. Most of the features are still theoretical and not yet active, making it hard to gauge how the experience will unfold. Another concern is that if the developers adopt an overly exploitative approach—like making power easy to obtain or demanding countless hours to enjoy the game—I wouldn’t be interested in purchasing it.
I believe the solo single-player version of Squadron42 will come out first, offering plenty of chances to practice.
Choosing to receive a package now grants you an alpha access for playing Arena Commander. This provides you with a hangar containing your vessel and entry into multiplayer matches across a few game modes. It's an excellent opportunity to familiarize yourself with the controls and assess how your system performs. While things may evolve over time, this stage still offers value. A major update is scheduled next week featuring significant enhancements. The new addition is racing, and while new ships will become available later, you can purchase them now if you wish to improve your experience or support the development process. In short, at this moment buying isn't giving you a major edge, but it lets you join a vibrant community that SC has built. Peace.
If you want to understand what they’re creating, support the game by choosing a price that fits your budget and matches your interests. I started with a 325A but plan to add more ships or trade to explore others when you can play them. Suggested options include the Arena Commander Starter ($45) or an Aurora LN with an Arena Commander Module ($45 + $5). You could also go for a more budget-friendly choice (Aurora MR $30 + AC $5). At least try some basic MP with other players or battle AI in survival mode while racing. Eventually, you’ll unlock the SP game with Squadron 42 and later the MP Persistent Universe MMO, since you’ve already invested in their development.
Arena Commander offers an enjoyable experience for me. Racing will provide additional activities once it launches. You invest in a ship at a price you're willing to support the game. Later, you can earn any achievement when the Universe releases new content. You're receiving a better starting ship for backing the developers. Variants differences represent the initial gear included. Hornet could be a solid merc ship given its current suitability for dogfights in AC—ship escorting might even fit. A skilled pilot could change that edge. The 300 series is versatile enough to handle various roles, perhaps the 325A would work well. However, it won't dominate head-to-head battles with Hornet. Boom-n-zoom is the key to success. I struggled a lot before grasping this. lol
