Even if you successfully OC the onboard graphics, it isn't going to change the hardware ID. Chances are good that the games that won't play, still won't. There is really nothing to be done to magically make this do what it won't do. Even stepping up to an i5/7 isn't going to offer better iGPU performance.
A very lowly sort of discrete GPU would easily run circles around the i3, but keep in mind that anything with enough power to run many modern games is going to be underperforming IMO due to that CPU.
As easy as it is for me to say this.....I would look to see if the motherboard would support an i7 2600. I would look for a matched set of 4GB sticks of RAM, and see about locating something like a 750ti or similar card. Additionally, if you aren't on SSD it's a great improvement for the desktop experience, if no help in games. I would not pay significant money for these items. Look used, look for CHEAP. If you are looking to spend more than (say) $100 on the CPU aspect alone it would be more worthwhile to pursue a new i3 10100 build.
