Sure, it's good to start with emulators. You're allowed to use the physical copies legally. Downloading ROMs is fine as long as you have the proper rights. Just be careful about viruses—stick to trusted sources and keep your system updated. Good luck with Melee and Brawl!

I recently used SSB (various options), but it didn’t perform well with Dolphin...it works, though it doesn’t match the console feel.

Generally, issues are resolved individually due to "Special Exceptions" such as actual ownership or connection to the game. Mostly it works out legally. ROMs aren't fully legal, but causing harm is impossible if you already possess the game. Just watch out for pixel cancer—it might sound like a Trojan, not a condom!

It's much improved since the new dolphin update, though there are still some minor slowdowns and a few bugs. It's still fun to play, just requires a solid CPU for smooth performance. They've made significant progress with the emu feature, but it's not perfect yet.

SSB works well on Dolphin, check the performance guide on their wiki for tips. With a Core i5 and an Nvidia GPU (or any GPU that's at least as good as a GTX 650 if you recall), you should be fine running even Wii titles. AMD CPUs/GPUs aren't ideal, but recent patches have improved them—especially developer builds.

I downloaded it using a specific program, but I don’t know the exact type. Could you clarify which software you’re referring to?

It's hard to talk about it... I don't really recall it being tough when you're trying to copy many consoles, so the recommended launch box is...

Dolphin and the ROM connection—probably crossed the line, I think.
