It's much improved since the new dolphin update, though there are still some minor slowdowns and a few bugs. It's still fun to play, just requires a solid CPU for smooth performance. They've made significant progress with the emu feature, but it's not perfect yet.
SSB works well on Dolphin, check the performance guide on their wiki for tips. With a Core i5 and an Nvidia GPU (or any GPU that's at least as good as a GTX 650 if you recall), you should be fine running even Wii titles. AMD CPUs/GPUs aren't ideal, but recent patches have improved them—especially developer builds.
