Hi gang, I am just about at my wits end I'm afraid! Looks like a spares or repairs job! In summary things that I tried: Resetting CMOS Remove CMOS batter, wait, reinstall Changing CMOS battery for new Removing CPU and checking pins (all okay) Reseating and repasting CPU Removing all USB devices Pressing ESC, F1, F2, F9, F10, F12, CTRL + ALT + DEL, DEL during start-up (no response from system for any combination) Pressing Ctrl + C to enter INTEL BOOT AGENT options (no response from system) Trying RAM in alternative slot (no change) Reseating graphics card (no change) Booting with and without SSD installed (no change) Looks like a dead BIOS? And as I've no way of getting into the BIOS to do anything, that's the end? I shall keep an eye on this thread in case anyone has any bright ideas, but I shall also be creating my spares or repairs ebay post! Thanks to community for all the help with this today.
I'm facing the same problem again. I purchased a Z440 on eBay as a media server about a week ago. I chose to update the BIOS to the newest version because... well, no clear reason. Just thought it would be safer to start with the latest. When I installed it, everything worked perfectly and I booted into Windows 10 right away. I also upgraded the processor and double-checked that all 28 threads were functioning properly. It seems really strange but it performed well. I used the built-in BIOS update tool to upgrade the firmware, and now I'm experiencing the same issue you mentioned. I tried using a PS/2 keyboard without any improvement.
I suspect this might be due to a security patch that's preventing the BIOS from loading properly, similar to how Windows Fast Boot restricts access. I plan to install Windows 10 and see if slowing down the boot process in UEFI mode helps. If that fails, I'll look into side-loading the BIOS without the GUI. I might also consider downgrading the BIOS or flashing the chip itself, though I'm worried about damaging it. Let me know what you find.
FIXED!! It seems you likely removed your device, so for anyone else doing a BIOS update, avoid using the Windows utility first. For my fix? Just performed a thorough CMOS reset. Take out the battery and power cord, press the CMOS button for at least 10 seconds, wait about five minutes, then repeat for another ten seconds. After that, reinstall the battery and try again. That should get you into the BIOS eventually. Hope this assists someone.
