Intel processor frozen at 0.8 GHz
I powered on the computer today and noticed it was running very slowly, stuck at 0.8 Ghz. My work is intense, so this matters a lot. I took out the GPU, reset the BIOS, installed the latest BIOS version, used the best default settings, applied the new thermal paste correctly, but nothing improved. I’m certain it’s not the temperature—my idle temps are normal. I tried the ThrottleStop tool, which fixed it by turning off BD PROCHOT, but the issue reappeared when I restarted Windows. The 0.8 frequency is also shown in the BIOS. What should I do? I can’t work and lost a whole day today. My system specs are: i7-10700K @ 5.05 Ghz, Corsair H100i Pro XT 240mm, MSI Z490 Tomahawk 16GB (2x8GB), Patriot Viper Steel -4000MHz, 16-16-16-34, MSI 1070TI titanium.
Did you make the changes to the thermal paste and it still worked?
Applied ThrottleStop to remove the 0.8 Ghz cap, then used Intel Extreme Tuning and Prime95 for five minutes—temperatures stayed within normal range. Likely the issue isn’t overheating, but possibly BIOS settings or power supply.
I've already handled everything. I took out the GPU, reinstalled the BIOS, updated to the newest version, followed the recommended default settings, and applied the correct thermal paste. Still, nothing is working. It doesn't look like a temporary problem.
