Intel or AMD for Rendering ? & WHY ?
I work with V-Ray using its CPU base engine. For AMD, core count matters a lot. If I pick AMD, what's the lifespan of the CPU? Should I go with 32 or 64GB? Our main issue here is our country's currency situation. All hardware imports run using US dollars, and the history of our currency is concerning. In 2009 it was okay for us since our income matched Europe and America, even before then. The exchange rate between USD and Toman has been unstable—2009 was normal, but 2010 saw a jump to 1,100, then it dropped to 1,360 by 2013, fell further in 2014, and reached 1,750 by 2016. By 2017 it hit 4,250, then 1,515 in 2018, 11,550 in 2019, and around 12,000 to 13,000 in 2020, with a range of about 17,500. It's really hard to predict.
It’s tough to suggest since it’s an enormous amount of money, right?
I understand, though the requirements call for strong FPU and AVX-512/2.0. In reality, the 10980xe performs quite well in those areas.
I revised my comment. It’s hard to recall exactly what I meant since I didn’t understand how far the threadripper was from the 10980xe. I think he’s aiming for the top, but the 10890xe could be a good option. If it’s close enough for him, it might be worth checking benchmarks with the 3900x. Saving about 450 bucks would be a nice bonus.
the world is really chaotic these days, especially in my country—though it’s a good choice I understand, and I’m still looking for the right path.
Regarding raw performance, the 3900x performs slightly better overall, though for certain applications such as AVX there aren't many CPUs available outside of LGA 3647 that match the 10980xe.
