Install Windows 7 on a Ryzen 9 3950X using SP1 updates
Hello fellow enthusiast, welcome! I hope this message finds you well. I’m a long-time observer now, so your request is quite helpful. I’m curious if anyone could create a video on installing Windows 7 SP1 on an AMD setup or offer some guidance. The issue seems to be losing USB functionality right after the install screen appears. I’ve tried using the Gigabyte USB tool to inject drivers, but it doesn’t work either. I’m using the exact setup you described: Gigabyte Aorus Master X570 board, Ryzen 9 3950X, G.SkillF4 graphics, 64GB RAM, 3200MHz DDR4, plus a Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD and a Radeon 5500 XT card. I also have a USB keyboard and mouse. Thanks in advance for your support!
Using Windows 7 on Zen has limited compatibility. AMD offers a chipset driver but third-party devices like USB or SATA controllers require separate support from vendors. Without available drivers, no solutions are possible.
Windows 10 isn't necessary if you prefer Linux, which is advancing and offers more hardware support options. I previously used Windows 7 mainly for driver compatibility. Linux might deliver better performance while maintaining a comparable feel. Mint seems to offer a user interface that resembles Windows somewhat. You may need a PS/2 mouse and keyboard until you find suitable drivers, or consider using disk media to obtain the necessary drivers.
Yes, the chipset driver doesn’t handle the Zen power profile, which means CPU power adjustments won’t work properly. Using anything besides 10 under Zen isn’t advised.
I successfully set it up on another machine with a 3900x board, which includes a PS2 port and uses a PS2 keyboard. All drivers functioned properly. However, the Aorus board doesn’t support it. Could an adapter work with PCIe PS2?
They've integrated most of the tracking features into Windows 7 unless you disable the updates, which makes a big difference. Some apps handle tracking better on Windows 10, but since Microsoft typically rolls out major updates again, staying informed is key. If privacy is a top concern, it's worth considering alternatives to Windows 7 or 10 that don't collect tracking data.
