Inquiry about the new motherboard front panel connector.
I collected a used motherboard and started connecting the FPC cables. Since there’s no manual and the board isn’t labeled, I’m trying to figure out the pin assignments for each cable. I’m unsure which connection is positive versus negative. If any of the pins are swapped during setup, could it harm the board? I checked online but didn’t find specific instructions for this model. It appears to be a standard FPC with color-coded connections, though no clear labels for positive or negative.
The motherboard model typically features a colored pin on one side and a white pin on the other. The front panel cables follow a similar pattern, with one colored and the other black.
It’s an intel board with an unclear model identification. There’s a sticker showing what I think is the number, but it’s hard to read. The cables are labeled, though there are no markings for pin polarity on the board itself—just standard color codes for connections. I’m certain power and reset won’t affect operation, so the machine can still run. I’m just uncertain about the LED polarity.
The wires are rarely colored much these days, YET you can still identify them since the positive end features a triangle.
Can you capture an image of the connectors on the motherboard? Which CPU was installed there? Since most Intel boards use the standard Frontpanel pins, they should be straightforward to locate.
Alright, I understand the orientation of the cables. Just confirming they reached the correct location on the board. This board is pretty unusual—if it fails, I won’t be holding anything since it was free, but I’d rather avoid that option. Lol
I simply entered everything as usual, and everything is functioning properly. It looks like any major issues were prevented.
