Setting up a network at home is something I’m exploring now. I already have most of the equipment from my old office, which is fine but definitely not enough for this project. I’m planning to use all Ubiquiti Unifi devices and aim for smooth connectivity across everything. I only added the essentials to get started, and I intend to expand later with more servers and a Cisco testing network. The AP placements are still a bit uncertain—I’ve placed five AP-AC-Pro units, thinking about adding one more for better balance. The 8-port switches are in the upstairs office and basement, near the TV and home theater area. Maybe moving the NAS up to the office would work better. Internet speed is 1 Gigabit Fiber.

You can definitely rely on a single AP to cover most of the house. It’s not necessary to have six, but having one per floor would work just fine.

I completely understand. They handled 5 units across three floors smoothly, with no problems at all. Perhaps it’s time to consider selling some.

This seems like the better approach I’m leaning toward, though many of those configurations would end up unnecessary.

I tried some adjustments with too many settings, and it really affected IoT devices negatively. The laptop and phone worked fine, but they kept shifting around a lot, which wasn’t ideal.

I understand the need to simplify it. I’ll focus on two APs—one in the basement rec room and another upstairs near the great room or kitchen.

I’d suggest testing it with two devices and observe the performance. Even a single unit per floor might seem excessive, but it depends on how signals move through the home. With just one nanoHD (likely less range than the Pro), climbing up a floor and reaching as far as possible still delivers 250Mbit via iperf3 without retries. Of course, inside the same room as the AP I can achieve 580Mbit. In a bigger house, placing them in corners rather than the center could be worthwhile—perhaps even positioning one in a basement corner and another on the opposite main level.

You're welcome! Everything seems to be working smoothly, so I don't expect many changes. Would you mind sharing what you're considering swapping?

I might experiment with the corner concept. There are numerous elements involved here, right?
