It's a gigabyte ga-ab350 motherboard, with the 5700g listed as a supported CPU and the latest BIOS. I've already attempted downgrading to F6, using the EC FW update tool, then upgrading to f41 and f52h. The board powers on, lights and fans activate, and it cycles through error LEDs—typically DRAM stays illuminated. I've tried two modules as well as a single stick in every slot. Placing it near the CPU triggers a CPU error light instead of DRAM. I can't even access the BIOS without reinstalling the previous CPU.

The system will run the newest BIOS but may not support the previous CPU model.

Which specific RAM model are you using? Does it appear in your motherboard specifications? @An0maly_76 Are you sure the latest CPU was placed correctly?

He’s been employing that motherboard and RAM for possibly many years because of its age. QVL would be completely out of date on such a board, even though it might not be very practical at first.

The identical RAM could fail to work with another CPU model from the same board.

Ryzens have some amusing comments about RAM, but on this board the QVLs might not be up-to-date. The 5700G is a Cezanne, and Gigabyte doesn’t list any QVL for a Cezanne here. I’ve noticed similar issues with Gigabyte A320 and B350 boards—BIOS updates seem chaotic, sometimes removing support for certain chips to make room for others. There are cases where Zen 2 boards just won’t boot or POST with any BIOS revision. Personally, I’d avoid running newer chips on pre-B450 boards and wouldn’t recommend a Zen3 on a pre-B550 board either. I suggest upgrading to a B450 or B550. To save costs, check QVLs to confirm your current RAM compatibility. @SweetSweet, if you’re comfortable sharing your RAM part number, I can assist further. I’m using a Ryzen 5 5600 on an ASRock a320m/AC board, but it seems to work just fine. That might be coincidence. A more recent board would likely fix the problem.

I believe the issue relates more to the overall hardware configuration than any single component. The two 3600 (Zen 2) units I've seen both lacked M.2 slots, and I'm curious if that played a role. Additionally, something crossed my mind. The 5700G suggests up to 3200 MHz RAM, but I question whether Gigabyte's BIOS updates eliminated compatibility for certain slower speeds to support newer processors included in those updates. Added: I also had trouble with MSI regarding the B450M Bazooka and the 5900X board a few years ago. They claimed a BIOS update would work, but later retracted it, warning it could damage my older hardware. It seems this board might be old enough that the latest BIOS won't enable the 5700G. It’s feasible. The board on my 5600 PC includes an M.2 slot and two 8GB 3200 MHz Corsair RAM sticks. It’s tough to pinpoint exactly what was done. Since these parts come from different makers, it’s probable they took separate approaches for compatibility.

New insight came to me after my previous comment... Probably the best reason to consider.
