It's conceivable the power supply unit was the problem from the start, potentially harming your motherboard. That remains a possibility to consider. However, minor coil whine is generally expected from a PSU.

Thanks for the responses. Fixed the Ethernet issue using the USB adapter. It’s not ideal, but I’m connected and can’t complain. I’ll return the power supply and hope it gets resolved. Assuming everything else is fine, I’ll leave the board as it is and accept it’s a bit outdated.
