The simplest solution would come from more experience, better preparation, and familiarity with the setup. Yet that might not be enough, could it? The 40fps setting is a bit too low. It’s entirely possible there were some stutters in certain areas, which could slow you down slightly.

It seems there’s an issue with speed. Five times the frames should let you complete the lap in 17 seconds. Online examples show higher FPS really speeds things up. It might be that the game runs so fast now you had to slow down, which could account for the poor time at 200 FPS. Keep working—you’ll get there eventually!

Between 60 fps and 60+ frames per second, or shifting from below 60 to 60 fps possibly!

It might simply be the higher frame rate that gives you more control over timing, particularly when relying on visual signals. Varying the overall session length can make these tiny intervals significant. Running the timer at the wrong frame rate wouldn’t be practical.

In two seconds it's unlikely. Consistent frames per second in a race game works better than high numbers. There aren't abrupt moves requiring millisecond reactions.

It might just be chance. Your reflexes could have sharpened after your last session, or perhaps the increased number of frames made the experience smoother and let you perform better—who can say for sure?

You can verify your theory by adjusting the resolution and refresh rate in the NVIDIA control panel to match your screen settings (like 1920x1080) and set the refresh rate to 30Hz. Keep VSync enabled while playing, and run a few laps—recommend at least ten. Measure the average time, then revert to your regular display settings with the higher refresh rate and repeat for another ten laps. Compare the results. Also consider that game updates over the past two years might have changed car handling behavior.
