You're dealing with a setup where the VRMs lack heatsinks for the SOC voltage, making it tricky to cool the iGPU. The recommended approach is to use a long strip of thermal tape covering all the VRMs, ensuring good contact and efficient heat transfer. If you want extra thickness, overlapping the tape can help. Avoid small pieces that might not adhere well or block airflow.
You don’t need a heat sink. Just position a fan directly on them—they’ll stay cool perfectly. SOC voltage is on the die and the memory controller, while the iGPU manages its own vcore. Even with overclocking, you’re not pushing the VRMs too hard, so they shouldn’t throttle much. The board will likely hold up until it reaches around 110°C.
In fact, when increasing the iGPU speed, the VRM MOS reaches 120°C and the board crashes. I'm doing this mainly because I need this functionality.
Consensus reached, though I believe lower-end boards slow down more at cooler temperatures. Noted—my B350 board was showing 90°C throttling.
