Connect your Windows user profile to the Windows Live email account tied to your former Windows user during the earlier setup. Access Windows via the Windows Live email login. This may trigger the process automatically.

They just called MS to set things up. People are nervous about calling them because of something unknown.

You bought a Windows 10 activation key—simply use the phone activation process so the key becomes active for your new device. If you upgraded to Windows 10 and received a free upgrade, that upgrade was free and the key remains tied to your hardware. When upgrading again, you’ll probably need to purchase the key yourself. Another option is if the key was previously linked to your Microsoft account, it will transfer more easily.

I've owned this PC for almost a year and I'm still using unactivated Windows 10. What's the point of spending $100 for an operating system?

This violates the terms of service. It's essentially the same as downloading pirated activators.

The agreement also states that you must use an activated Windows version.
