I'm trying to set up a system on a budget around 1k dollars. Right now I'm considering a Ryzen 5 3500X and checking out motherboards on Amazon. Every time I feel confident about my choice, I read warnings that might make me hesitate. Here are the boards I've looked at so far. If you have any suggestions, it would be really helpful. Thanks a lot!

If you browse platforms such as Microcenter or Newegg, you’ll find a section called Socket: Type based on specifications. However, the Ryzen 5 3600x uses an AM4 socket, so you should compare there with the motherboard model listed on those sites.

I get it, but seeing the comments made me concerned about the BIOS. I’m sorry I didn’t mention it clearly—I should have noted that the motherboard’s BIOS might impact the CPU. If the socket type is your main worry, that would help clarify things.

Head over to the motherboards developers page and be extremely cautious in searching for the exact BIOS for that board. It’s better to choose the second most recent version that isn’t labeled a beta.

Sure, I get it. You're checking if the Ryzen 5 3600X is Gen 3 compatible based on BIOS support. Just to confirm, you're asking if it works as long as the BIOS recognizes Gen 3 features.

The system relies on the specific motherboard. If you understand the model, I can assist in locating the BIOS.

Great, here are those three I was checking out. Hope you didn’t miss them! They’re the MSI Pro series, A320, Gigabyte B450, Aorus Pro Wi-Fi, ASUS RogStrix B450-F, and the gaming version. Thanks for the help!

If you're avoiding the trouble of updating motherboard BIOS, the B550 is a comparable option for certain models. You can find it at this link: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ROG-B550-F-M...338&sr=8-4
