This game really hooks you back and forth. I came across a YouTuber called Lobos Jr. who does speed and challenge runs, which motivated me to give it a shot. I began experimenting with speed running over the weekend. My personal best was 2:45 (BKH), and my club run lasted just over 4 hours. These times are solid without any cheating or skipped sections—no shortcuts like in Duke's archives when he jumped the prison with the elevator. I decided to try a SL1 speed run next. I reached the Kiln of the First Flame in just over 10 hours, which wasn't bad for me. The challenge is tougher without HP and limited weapon choices. Still, it was the most enjoyable experience since my first DaS1 playthrough. I planned carefully not to place the lord vessel until after defeating the FKs... so I took full advantage of the SL1 Dark wraith invasion mode! Because I was having so much fun as Santa/Satan, I put aside the speed run for that character. I upgraded my weapons and got ready for NG+. The only boss I didn't defeat in NG was Kalameet. I spent a lot of time chopping off his tail and refused to use the weapon or the ring that would have made me take more damage—even though everything one-shots me. Last night, I gathered all my clubs, crossbows, and shields for NG+ and gave it a go. Everything up to Anor Londo was smooth on NG+, especially with maxed Pyro, but honestly, O&S probably wiped me out 20-25 times. Just a few minutes ago, I completed the run and gave them that classic "Well what is it" reaction—what a thrill!
It was an enjoyable battle, took me two hours on my first try.
notable successes everywhere. I have some differences with you on how replay value works in Dark Souls titles. After trying them online and a few hours of competitive play, I felt they weren’t very fun.
Absolutely, he’s quite aggressive. Early on, I learned the importance of quick dodging even with strong builds. My top advice for taking him down is to go for a "hammer" weapon class. When he rolls back twice to gain power, just two 2-hour 1 hits can stop it.
He gains great protection from the Greatshield and Magic Barrier, making him immune to squatting. His stamina remains intact. With Havel's Set, he can absorb significant damage. Hammers don't have the necessary reach or speed; I favor the Balder Swag Sword instead.
I arrived late to the souls games. I didn't begin playing until I got it free on Xbox Live. I recall starting in the undead asylum and thinking "This ain't too bad," then opening the doors where the asylum daemon drops down. I read a message that says "run away" and I did, finding the exit the first time! When I moved through the fog where you attack him, I paused and thought "NOOO WAAAY!" I can honestly say I never felt such fear or screamed so loud while playing a game as when that noble head jumped up and smashed the platform I was on.
I was also late, didn’t play any Souls game until DaS hit $5 during Steam’s 2014 Winter sale. It stayed in my Steam library for nearly six months until I discovered a budget wireless 360 USB adapter on Ebay for $14. I really liked it and ended up buying DS for PS3, which was great while I waited for DaS2 SoTFS to be available. I had a similar first encounter too... that person was tough but eventually helped me get started with Dark Souls! Edit: That photo is pretty cool
