Ideas for wireless cards compatible with pfSense
I acquired a pfSense device to set up a dedicated network, focusing on its routing features instead of firewall functions. I currently own a Linksys wireless router that has performed poorly over the past months, with frequent issues like reboots and factory resets. I’m considering a wireless networking card for my pfSense to enable communication between my wireless and wired devices. For example, my laptop should be able to access the shared network drive, and my Windows Server must be able to see my laptop or phone. I also need the ability to manage IP addresses for wireless devices via Windows Server. Ideally, I’d like a 5GHz card. Could you share what others use for wireless cards on pfSense? This would help me choose appropriately and avoid common pitfalls.
I was considering this, but I prefer not to invest a lot of money. I just need a card that’s easy to use and I can toss it in without hassle. A wireless one costs around $50, but if I go with Ubiquiti I’ll be spending at least $100 to keep up with my router’s range. Plus, I’d like everything in one place for management.
Configured PfSense as the router. If you're satisfied with the Wi-Fi, switch the router settings and connect it to your Ethernet network as a Wi-Fi bridge; it will function like an access point.
I attempted that, but it seems there isn<|pad|>'s option for a bridged setup. I've checked everywhere and tried connecting my wan cable to a LAN port, but it didn't work. I'll revisit this later. If it doesn't function, I'll likely install the wireless card suggested earlier and use Ubiquiti equipment next time.
I checked the card again before, but I couldn't locate the Netgate article. As long as Amazon offers a solid return policy, I think I'll secure that card.
Disable DHCP, assign a static IP on the local side, and link it through a LAN port to your network.
