I9 9900ks
I9 9900ks
Hello. I recently received a new i9 9900ks but it isn't reaching 5GHz across all cores. It consistently stays at around 4.7GHz. I'm having trouble identifying the cause. Could anyone else experience similar problems and have they fixed them? Thank you in advance for your assistance!
Have you attempted updating the BIOS? The motherboard company released a newer version to ensure compatibility with the latest chip.
It would only reach 5GHz temporarily, not permanently. Make sure your BIOS is current and enable any MCE features. I really wish you had a display with higher resolution and refresh rate.
Increase turbo boost and time limits to maintain 5GHz across all cores
How are you initializing it? Keep in mind the turbo will activate only when other restrictions aren’t in place. It doesn’t guarantee a constant 5 GHz across all conditions. It might be encountering power or current caps. I’d start with default configurations. Disable MCE and run a stress test via CPU-Z, which is a lighter workload. Check hwinfo64 for core performance details. If it isn’t hitting 5 GHz, look at the "Performance Limit Reasons" area. Any confirmation of acceptance means a speed cap exists. Watch for mentions of "max turbo limit" and "turbo attenuation"—these are typical for stock settings, not overclocking. Raising power limits isn’t considered overclocking by Intel and won’t impact warranty coverage. They count as overclocking only if you manually adjust the clock speeds.
