If you consider this an overclock, then a 3800X becomes a modified 3700X. It's simply a higher-end option, not much more than the original. The power consumption rating matters, but its interpretation varies. Some might think TDP is irrelevant, while others see it as important. That’s another issue. Also, Zen 2 can exceed its TDP in certain configurations. Both my 3600 and 3700X have a 65W TDP rating, but they push toward an 88W PPT limit that’s readily achievable. The main distinction lies in whether Intel or AMD enforces limits by default—AMD does, the other doesn’t. Either way, both can surpass their TDP in stock builds.
