Yes, go with the stock option. Avoid overclocking. It might not be worth it, but if you do, wait until the 10th generation is widely available (Z490 models) to get a better deal on Z390 boards.

This could align with your preferences. I share the same motherboard and would feel assured about supporting a 9700k or 9900k for its expected longevity.

It's been working smoothly with my 5GHz 8700k for more than two years at a voltage above 1.35v. I didn't consider upgrading to higher speeds since I still have my original chipset.

Sure, I was planning to give my i5-8600k to a friend who's starting out in PC gaming. I didn’t intend to upgrade, but I wanted to clear out before the prices drop on the 8th generation. I’ll check back tomorrow if it went well. I’ve already updated the BIOS, everything looks good.

Regarding the VRMs, the Gigabyte Aorus Z370 Gaming 5 fits well with the EVGA Z370 FTW, MSi Z370 Pro Carbon, ASUS Z370-A and Strix Z370-E. It shouldn't encounter many problems with an i7-9700K either on stock or during mild/high overclocking. A push-to-the-wall aggressive overclock seems unlikely.
