This means nothing. The 3700x offers a higher IPC count, more threads, and a powerful FPU. What are you asking? Then consider getting the 10600.

It really affects performance, but what I’m focusing on is avoiding worrying about a smaller IPC gain. Since the 10th generation architecture is quite similar to the 9th, any differences aren’t significant for me in this test.

Many H series boards are worthless overpriced products. The TuF H370 is an example of such a poor choice. The 3700X offers roughly a 10% boost in IPC compared to the 9700. That means a 9700 running at 4.4GHz can barely keep up with a 3700X at 4GHz.

No one on the forum recommends it as a smart buy—it’s outdated and disappointing compared to the Ryzen 5 3600. It offers similar performance but consumes twice the power, generates double the heat, and costs more overall.

While the 9700 offers solid performance, there are more affordable alternatives that still make sense in 2020. Also, H series boards aren't reliable, and even with a locked motherboard, the 9700 can still overheat your system significantly at its default speed. It won’t fail immediately, but it won’t run efficiently either. If you're focused on gaming, consider Ryzen 3600 or an i5-10600K (or 10400 if you prefer avoiding unlocked chips). For a more budget-friendly route, upgrading to a Ryzen with a B450 board or even a Z490/MSI B460 gives you flexibility. With the 9700 paired with an H310/H370, you won’t have any upgrade options left. The 9900K can fit in the same slot but will underperform and throttle heavily due to the poor motherboard design.

I understand what an IPC means and the advantage of the 3700X. My goal is to find the highest possible FPS, especially since my friend’s overclocked 3700X still lags behind his gaming PC in every game. I’m not using it for work, just for gaming, so speed matters most.
