I7 8700K no puede alcanzar 5GHz en voltaje estándar
Hi everyone.. So, after almost 1 month I run the i7 8700K at stock clock and 1.1v with MSI Z370i Gaming Pro Carbon AC, today I tried to go higher straight went beyond the Turbo clock speed, 4.8GHz with 1.25v, benchmarked it smoothly. Went up to 4.9GHz but oddly found the sweet spot at 1.31v! Benchmarked it smoothly.. I read about 8700K mostly can be overclocked to 5GHz even with 1.3v.. Curious why the voltage is that high for 4.9GHz.. Decided to went even higher to 5GHz without changed the voltage at 1.31v, then increase by 0.01 till I reached 1.37v but can't get the sweet spot between 1.31v-1.37v. Then I decided to go back down to 4.9GHz with 1.31v which I'm running it currently. My RAM is 2x8Gb 2666MHz OC at 3200MHz with 1.35v, XMP is enabled. AVX offset = 0 I set the multiplier to all core fixed. What makes my 8700K can't be OCed to 5GHz? When I run it on 5GHz 1.34v and benchmarked it on RealBench, when it on encoding test it freezes/crashes, the max temp when it happens was 79C.. Happened the same way with other voltage, always crashed between 1.31v-1.37v but the temps didn't even reach 80C yet.. Did I missed something on the OC setting? I searched for references on how to OC 8700K on MSI Z370i Gaming Pro Carbon AC, and found this.. https://www.anandtech.com/show/12763/msi...c-review/9 This gives me even bigger question, knowing it can run 5GHz with 1.275v, but why can't my 8700K run at the same voltage??? Please help me how can I get great result like that review I linked above..
Increase the voltage a bit—try 1.4. Certain chips handle higher overclocks better than others. It's like winning the lottery; it's mostly luck unless you invest in a specific chip.
Generally, minor differences can arise during silicon die production, influencing clock speeds, voltage requirements, power consumption, and more. It looks like AnandTech just received a high-quality sample, while yours is slightly below average. You might improve performance by increasing your cooler's fan speed to lower temperatures, which could help you reach 5 GHz more easily. Adjusting the AVX offset could also be beneficial.
Likely the issue was not receiving a strong signal, so setting the input voltage to 2V and using an LLC converter might allow you to operate at higher voltages without exceeding safety limits.
Reducing delays will lower temperatures and prevent performance drops. Moisture also assists. I cleared my 8700k, keeping it near 42°C at regular loads, and after three hours with Prime95 it reached about 73°C.
