I selected Linux with Ubuntu as my choice. I also run Vista on the same machine, but I tend to opt for Ubuntu whenever I can (for clear reasons!)

Initially I was cautious about Windows 8 but after testing the final retail release outside a virtual environment I really enjoyed it and decided to keep using it. It was also quite affordable at around $20 then, thanks to a discount for early adopters of Windows 7.
