Fascinating developments are on the horizon. I think AMD will surpass competitors again beginning with Arrow Lake. Their performance could improve by about 10-20%, though they’ll still fall short. Intel remains a dominant force compared to AMD’s efforts, especially after their struggles with 14nm and challenges at 10nm.

Uncertain about the outcome, but even in five years there may still be limited applications for 24 cores in the retail sector unless game technology advances and makes them useful. Otherwise, the core market might settle between 8 to 12 cores since people won’t invest in unnecessary ones.

Future gaming systems will feature at least 12 processing units, with availability expected around 2026-2027.

Core functions will be minimal. Most games limit performance to around 6 or 8 units at most.

These chips are likely to seem weaker on paper, but their real impact depends on which games use them and how often they’re needed. Power requirements for games have grown more gradually recently than in the past.

Their lifespan differs among individuals based on the games they play and the software they use, with how those programs are built also playing a role.

Both firms are choosing distinct paths, so the outcome won't simply hinge on who is ahead—it'll depend heavily on how software evolves. The discussion will shift from comparing who wins to focusing on the tools and games each uses, similar to deciding between a street race car versus a dirt vehicle. The debate will center more on what programs or games you're running, rather than just rankings.

AMD has consistently demonstrated strong potential to match or surpass Intel, achieving significant advancements over the past decade. They introduced numerous innovative ideas and improvements such as additional gaming cores, a robust platform, chiplet architecture, 3D caching, and enhanced efficiency. Intel faced challenges between 2018 and 2021 until their hybrid design became more advanced, though it remained relatively conventional with smaller, slower cores to manage power consumption when adding features. No Intel processor has exceeded eight full cores.

It's notable how CPU cores have grown significantly over the past few years, especially with AMD's contributions. Just six years ago (2017), Intel's top model (Core I7) was the 7700K, offering 4 cores and 8 threads. This pattern has continued for many years. Nowadays, the 4 cores/8 threads configuration is considered basic, while the 24-core version of the 13900K represents the pinnacle of performance.
