I could consider it, but I won’t go all in. The RX 470 is around 70 or 90 USD for the memory packs, so I’ll go with it. I might try Manjaro since there’s no compelling reason against it.
Manjaro is a great choice. I really enjoy it. Deepin DE is also my preference.
I'm in Canada, so discounts are rare.
I seldom encounter 470s under $150 with solid cooling and no mining history, and I've never seen a unit sell in double digits.
Maybe so. But I’m not sure about the steps and I don’t mind figuring them out.
My scenario is alike yours but I’m enjoying Dota 2 and CS:GO which were built from the start, so it’s awesome. The sound is a bit odd on Linux—it’s not really too loud.
I haven't encountered any problems with the non-free Nvidia driver. Nouveau had a few issues for me, though. Software on Debian-based systems often becomes outdated. With Debian you can move to Sid(unstable), but your computer might not make it through the change. That's why I no longer suggest Debian for most people, though I still use it for personal reasons.
It’s mostly frustrating problems. The performance works, but there are many artifacts—like forgetting Xserver settings and missing boot options. I’ve managed to get by with only small green dots on my third screen, and Discord often gets static with occasional screen flickering during intense use like gaming. Basically, it’s just a bunch of headaches.
Overclocking shouldn't be affected by the operating system. My FX 8320 runs smoothly on Fedora, but gaming brings issues. A game crashes unexpectedly and won't launch, even on Windows. This isn't due to the OS; the game itself is poorly made. It has also caused problems on Windows before, and it took a long time to fix so it would launch properly. Crashes continue on both Mac and Linux systems.
