My mom's laptop is quite old with only 4GB RAM and a 6th generation Intel i5 processor running Windows 10. It’s been acting slowly lately, taking over 20 minutes just to open Chrome, and even resetting it doesn’t help. I thought about switching to Mint Linux Cinnamon because it uses less memory. However, I made some errors during the installation process on the disk partition in the installer. Now my hard drive is empty of any operating system. I decided to flash Ubuntu instead. The installation tool runs fine, but when the GURB2 setup starts, it crashes. I’m struggling and need assistance—I’ve tried boot repair tools and other fixes, but nothing seems to work.

The installer stopped unexpectedly. I'm attempting a new run to get more details.

You haven't provided any details yet. Please share the information about your BIOS/EFI setting and the hard drive's partition table (GPT or MBR) so I can assist further.

The problem seems to lie with your hard drive. This could cause slowness and timeouts. Consider swapping it for an SSD.

It's feasible. It might still be wise to confirm it's not software-based. The Windows setup could have contained many viruses if someone unfamiliar with technology used it. A 6th generation laptop isn't very outdated.

It seems like a virus might have been the cause. If you're comfortable with Linux, consider reinstalling Windows 10. You could also try using Mint, though your mom might find it a bit surprising.

she relies on her laptop solely for virtual yoga sessions. the windows application is malfunctioning. the system reports an issue because the disc was reformatted during the mint setup.
