No idea what you are talking about when you say "everything." Windows isn't one little file. You only want to keep your own stuff, like photos and documents. It doesn't mean downloading games or software. If the drive isn't making sure everything gets formatted correctly, then things get much worse.

Well, yeah, because Windows lives on that SSD, I'm just taking care of the hard drive, not the system drive itself.

For this reset, make sure just the SSD is plugged in. Don't worry about whether the old hard drive is on or off.
