I placed my system into sleep mode, but after waking it was extremely slow and would freeze intermittently while trying to load applications. It remained unresponsive for a while before losing connection to my display device. The GPU fans spiked to 100% and the PC shut down completely. My drivers were removed and reinstalled multiple times without success. I used DDU to clean up what was left, then reinstalled them again—now everything functions properly. Perhaps I should avoid putting my PC in sleep mode going forward? I’m not sure... This is my first time experiencing this issue (I believe) and will keep watching for further signs.

I don’t rely on sleep mode. Modern computers start up quickly, so I’m willing to wait just ten seconds before clicking the power button.

It runs quickly, taking about 2 minutes and 10 seconds to stop and around 1 minute and 10 seconds to start up.

Are you still starting from a hard disk? The shutdown took a bit longer for me as well, but I just get up and leave after pressing the button. When booting from an SSD, the startup time shouldn't exceed 30 seconds.

I've been running the same SSD with Windows for nearly a decade, and it's still being reported as functioning well.

It could be due to the SATA SSD, but I hadn’t said that before. The drive being a PCIe 4.0 NVMe is also a factor.

This idea doesn't seem to matter.

it’s clearly something incorrect, likely an old hard drive. you might try reinstalling windows and check if it works, or switch to a new SSD and install windows again. make sure windows boots within about 20 seconds on a decent SSD.

this isnt very meaningful by itself. if you aren't willing to replace hardware and or reinstall windows which were my suggestions, how are we supposed to help you? this is a 12yo SSD and while its true that doesn't look like it's completely dead yet, it can still cause issues like you've described. tldr: at least reinstall windows

Some popular cloning software options include VSCode, Clonezilla, and GitHub Copilot.
