I haven't played any AAA titles in years, but it's not just about the tech side. Mostly because they feel dull and unoriginal. Sure, they might be well-made, but they're just repetitive versions of what came before. *announces launch of Dark Souls*

The first Dark Souls version was extremely difficult to play. After adding Curserlock for it to work with two monitors, performance dropped significantly, causing stuttering and crashes. The lack of customization options made it one of the poorest ports I've encountered.

It requires DSfix to run it, yet it wasn’t originally designed for PC adaptation. They simply passed it along to the community that kept requesting it. In a manner where solutions could emerge through collective effort, this was true for dsfix. The game itself remains one of my top picks—distinct from modern titles, standing alongside Metroid Prime.

they might have tried a bit more than just swapping file formats. I mean, they didn’t even lock the cursor to the window. If they’d invested over five minutes in porting it, it could have worked. Honestly, the community would still have fixed it—one of those reasons we love PC gaming. Still, let’s be real, they shouldn’t have had to. I know they were asking hardcore for the game, but a quick message like “hey guys, we’re working on it, but if you don’t want it to be bad, wait a week” would’ve helped people relax. Personally, I didn’t bother with DSFix because I didn’t think it was worth it. Metroid Prime was still awesome though!

It's a tricky situation where it's hard to say for sure. It doesn't seem like they planned to make it for porting or didn't have the budget for a proper release. If they had stuck with their original approach, we wouldn't have seen Dark Souls on PC. They just delivered the essentials. I'm not sure about the actual retail cost, but if it matched standard pricing, that would have been a solid title name. Metroid Prime is definitely my top pick, and I always feel that nostalgia every time I play it.
