We're looking at a performance boost from Zen 2 to around 8-10% higher IPC compared to Skylake, with all modern Intel CPUs still based on Skylake. Zen 3 is projected to increase this by 25-30% in September. To keep up with AMD's 4.3GHz, Intel will likely need to reach 6GHz soon.

It’s not primarily IPC that changed; most of the updates were different. You also experienced a memory swap somewhere. Each Ryzen generation appears to be around 15% performance, not just a series but actual generations.

We noticed similar issues on earlier Core series processors (from Core 2 to Nehalem to Sandy Bridge), which just stopped working after the Kabylake. Ryzen represents a fresh architecture with many opportunities waiting to be seized.

9 700 is a scam. The first desktop i7 didn’t have hyperthreading, just to allow it to be split into a new i9 for extra profits. A terrible deal—clearly Intel realized this and fixed it with the 10th generation.

It’s not always the easiest solutions. The focus is pushing chips to run faster in order to capture more market share. They also have two teams developing advanced chip technology that can jump ahead. Intel currently has at least four such projects underway.
