I can't overclock my 4790K
I have a 4790k with a Be Quiet Dark Rock 3 cooler. I tested it with prime 95 at 1.25 volts and temperatures stayed between 68-70°C. I'm using an Asus Z97-A Mobo with turbo mode on. When I set the multiplier to 44 or higher, the system boots fine but Speedfan and RealTemp still show 4.0 ghz. I’m unsure why my processor isn’t reaching 4.0 ghz. Since I bought both the motherboard and processor together at Microcenter, I think the board supports overclocking. I don’t know what to do, help please!!
It appears the Processor Power Saving feature is active, restricting its clock speeds similar to CPU C State Support.
Checked CPU-Z and reviewed the BIOS for PCU clock speeds. Used a specific guide for overclocking. Shared your system specifications with us. If unsure, it's best to research first before proceeding. The advice was clear: read thoroughly before acting.
Use CPU-Z and also check the BIOS to find your PCU clock speeds. What instructions did you follow for the overclock? Could you provide all the details about your system's specifications? If you're unsure, it's better not to proceed...so we recommend reviewing the information first before acting.
My specs include an ATI 7970 gigabyte factory OC with 3gb, G.Skill 2x4gb sticks at 1600mhz, one 128gb SSD, another 500gb SSD, a 750gb HDD, and a 4790k motherboard from ASUS.
I relied on a guide step by step without adjusting the clock speed. I also watched a YouTube video and reviewed a Linux Tech Tips overclocking tutorial.

I used a multiplier of 45 and it started at 4.5ghz, but after roughly 30 seconds it dropped back to 4.0ghz.
