HP Omen 30L features a 30L Ryzen 5-5600X with 16GB DDR4 RAM and RGB Vengeance RAM. The CPU operates at idle temperatures between 65-75°C and runs between 90-102°C during gaming. It shuts down when temperatures rise. HP support cannot identify the problem, and the Omen Gaming Hub raises the temperature from 65-75 to 85-90°C. All attempts to fix it—replacing thermal paste, adding a larger fan, adjusting power management—have failed. CoreTemp monitoring shows significant drops in idle temps after uninstalling the hub. The manufacturer insists the hub is functioning correctly. Some users have replaced the factory air cooler, but they receive error codes during startup.

Remove the cooler and take a photo of the contact area along with the CPU to assist in identifying the problem.

The cooler’s design matches a regular AMD Wraith setup, using aluminum instead of copper pipes and featuring an RGB round fan. CPU temperatures jump into the 70s from the low 40s with any load between 5-20%, especially during gaming where they approach or exceed safe limits. I’ve re-applied thermal grease and cleaned all vents and fans. Removing the Omen Gaming Hub helped, as it kept idle temps steady around 75°F. Fans only increase speed when temperatures rise, but only after running the built-in thermal check. I’m now skipping the side panel and using a powerful room fan to maintain idle at ~37°F and gaming temps near 75°F.

HP has an unusual RGB connection setup I've never encountered, which means the RGB won't function properly on a new cooler.

Received from HP repair depot, performed factory reset on both software and hardware. Swapped OEM air cooler for a water cooler. Still experiencing heat spikes—temperatures rise to 70s and 80s Celsius during idle while windows are open.

At this stage, the only possibilities seem to be a bent CPU chip or a problem in the thermal interface material between the die and the IHS. If both coolers are affected, it likely points back to the CPU itself. Consider reaching out to AMD to request a replacement before taking further action. You can test the flatness of the IHS using a metal straight edge and a light source behind it to see if you can remove the CPU. If AMD refuses to replace it, you might need to sand it down to achieve a flat surface—this is risky and could void any warranty, though some enthusiasts do this for extreme overclocking. Proceed at your own risk; a dead CPU is a serious outcome.
