How to Overclock GPU?
Tyler LM shared his experience with Brownie_1g. He mentioned his system specs and performance issues while playing games. Brownie_1g asked about the types of games he plays and whether his CPU usage is high. Tyler explained that his CPU usage stays between 0% and 3%. He shared his own gaming experience, noting lower FPS when focusing on one spot but dropping when looking around. He suggested checking CPU usage via Task Manager and recommended adjusting frame rates to avoid overloading the GPU. He also mentioned using tools like Afterburner for better monitoring without interrupting gameplay.

inquire about the types of games you play. You have an Intel i3 and a GTX 1060 with 6GB RAM. You can run many games, though not all are great. It seems your CPU usage is low when idle. Your current CPU usage ranges from 0% to 3%. When playing Rust, you get between 50-100 FPS for a short time, but performance drops significantly when you try to look around. Have you checked your CPU usage via Task Manager? That could be the issue. It appears the i3 isn’t powerful enough for the GTX 1060. You might see better FPS if you limit yourself to about 45-60 FPS during gameplay to prevent the GPU from overloading the CPU. Task Manager is not very useful for monitoring; I’d suggest using Afterburner and overlays to keep an eye on performance while playing without interrupting the game. I’m considering capping the FPS to see if it helps. It hasn’t improved much, but raising the settings did help. For a GTX 1060, I’d recommend upgrading to an I5 or Ryzen 5 processor."
Tyler LM shared his experience with Brownie_1g about game performance on an Intel i3 and GTX 1060 graphics card. He mentioned that he can play many games, though not all at a decent speed, possibly due to background programs using CPU resources. He asked about the current CPU usage when not playing games and suggested checking it via Task Manager. He noted that his CPU usage stays between 0% and 3%. He also shared that while playing Rust, he achieved 50-100 FPS for short periods, but performance dropped significantly when looking around. He recommended capping FPS to avoid bottlenecks and mentioned using tools like Afterburner for better monitoring. He also discussed a future upgrade plan involving an i7 4790 and a potential GPU change. Brownie_1g asked about reinstalling Windows or other considerations after replacing the CPU.

what kind of games are you playing? You have an Intel i3 and a GTX 1060 with 6GB RAM. You can play many games, though not all very well. It seems your CPU is under load from background programs. What percentage of your CPU usage do you have when you're not playing games?
My CPU usage ranges from 0% to 3%.
When I run Rust, I get between 50 and 100 frames per second when focusing on one spot, but my performance drops significantly when I try to look around. Is there a way to check the CPU usage via Task Manager?
That’s a bottleneck – the i3 isn’t powerful enough for the GTX 1060. You might see better FPS if you cap it at around 45-60 frames to prevent the GPU from reaching full CPU usage. Task Manager is not very useful for monitoring; I’d prefer using Afterburner and overlays while playing without needing to exit the game.
I’m considering capping the FPS.
It didn’t help much, but when I increased the settings it did.
That’s a bottleneck too. I’d suggest upgrading to an i5 or Ryzen 5 for a GTX 1060.
I’ll get an i7 4790 in a few weeks, then a week later I’ll have a 1080. I should be fine until then. I also have another question – if I replace the CPU, do I need to reinstall Windows?
Not necessarily, but it’s something you might want to consider.
