i didn’t attempt to add another 2 x 16 when i upgraded. i went directly to 2 x 32 gb and relocated the 2 x 16 kit to a different build. i also avoided opting for fast cutting edge ram because i understand ryzen can be selective, and i didn’t want to cause issues.
a second point is using just one 1tb ssd. ssd’s offer high i/o capacity, but running multiple vms along with the host os from a single drive will quickly reach its limit. plus the space required for each vm’s installation. since each vm installs its own os, it needs that area to function properly.
i run the host os off one drive and then use a few other ssd drives for the rest—data sets and similar tasks. i might also keep separate drives for different data sets to maintain balance. just a thought to consider: once many items are running from the same drive, performance will start to degrade as it struggles to handle all the simultaneous requests.
