This looks like a solid opportunity for a 12600K from Intel. Alternatively, you might look into a 12700K or AMD 5800X/5900X. If you want extra budget flexibility to offset the high GPU costs, the upcoming i5 12400 could be a good fit. Earlier generations like the i5 10400/11400 or i7 10700/11700 might also work depending on what you can afford. All decisions are influenced by current pricing, which has been quite unpredictable lately.

You're likely choosing the i7-12700K to ensure your setup remains relevant in the future.

For gaming purposes, a standard 4-6 core CPU should suffice. However, if the game demands intense processing power or is an eSports title requiring high frame rates, opt for a higher-end model. It's not just about quantity but about having the latest Intel 11th/12th generation chips or Ryzen 5000 series.

Consider your needs carefully—saving a bit more might be better if you're leaning toward a Ryzen 7 3800X.

Avoid handling the 3800X if it costs more than a 12700K. The 5800X offers less performance compared to both the 12700K and the 3800X.

It's a bit more affordable in the UK, but I'll go with the 12,700k for better long-term security.

Did you mean 5800X? If you really intended 3800X, then no. I wouldn't even consider that chip. But if it's 5800X, those extra cores could be useful later for more demanding tasks or streaming. It's not essential right now, though.
