I don't even understand all those fancy computer parts right now, but I wanted to get a graphics card called the 4070 paired with an Intel processor called the 14700K.

I don't agree with that. The best graphics card in this area is the RTX 3070. I think a CPU works well with it. If you play big games or new titles on 1080p, either your processor or your graphics card could help, but I still believe the graphics card makes a bigger difference. OP, what are the top five games you want to run smoothly and which resolution do you choose? That would let us know where the upgrade is needed.

The RTX 3070 is good, but only if you aren't trying to play games at 4K. If you want to play at 1080p and bought this card recently, you would need something much better like a new RTX 4070 Ti or higher to feel a real difference. That improvement isn't automatic; it also depends on how fast your computer's processor (CPU) is. Is the extra money for a faster CPU worth $1,000? Or is $800 enough for what you need right now? Should you spend that much just to fix an old socket system that could be worse in other ways? At 1080p, your computer is limited by how fast it can calculate things. An RTX 5090 won't help unless your CPU is also very strong and ready for it. For example: the tests I showed you used a new card to show how good an old one could be with a fast processor. Here are some links to watch more about specific parts like the Ryzen chips and their performance in games. The current market situation is confusing. Changing your main computer chip (the CPU) can make your current graphics card work better, upgrade your whole system now, and let you buy good stuff later for less money than buying a new GPU all over again. You asked for smoother gaming. That's the best approach. Later when prices drop slightly on these cards, you can add an even better one to finish off your setup, but first you need a strong CPU that works with it. I have spoken

You are betting way too much on how well this decision will go.

I'm letting you guess what's inside those boxes by looking at the list I shared earlier.

Hey, it looks like once you get a new CPU and some of those other parts that are good, which GPU do you want to pair up with it? Maybe even a bigger screen so you can see things in more detail.
