I received a brand new external 4TB storage device to install the Windows system image, but it keeps crashing and shows error messages. I've searched for hours without finding a solution. My machine currently has a 250 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD. I attempted an image using just the SSD, which failed (see attached image). Using both drives also causes crashes. I don't know what to do now. Edit: I'm running Windows 10 Home, 64-bit.

You want a clear explanation of the issue. The problem is happening with both your new HDD and the one you already own, showing the same error.

It seems like the issue is related to an external device. The system can't manage the workload, which causes a crash and displays a "drive not found" message.

No solution exists, but you might consider these alternatives: Update motherboard bios, change a USB cable, try a different USB port, update USB controller drivers, use a better external HDD, or install an internal HDD.

I don’t rely on Windows backups, yet I’ve faced similar issues where the USB port inside the case struggles with the data transfer, causing it to fail midway. Could you tell me what kind of motherboard you’re using and which external hard drive you have?
