I'm trying to unzip everything myself now. It looks like restoring files from 7 to 8.1 isn't possible.

Check the bottom left corner of the file history for the image you mentioned. Also, look at the link you shared—could be related to a backup or recovery issue. You might have another version of the personal files that didn’t rely on Windows 7 backup recovery.

Just checked with my buddy—he said version 8.1 doesn<|pad|>, they took out the feature, so you can't restore files from version 7 anymore.

Initially, backing up files in 7 was necessary, but you could have created duplicates more easily. Third, the file history/image feature only functions on Windows 8 due to differences between VHD and VHDX formats, and the latter is problematic for mounting without using Windows 8 directly.

Sure. I understand you're asking about porting apps to Windows 8, but it seems like there might be some confusion. I was thinking you meant files such as documents and folders. Lol
