I just upgraded from Windows 7 to 8.1 and saved my files. I’m thinking about restoring the older version on my new system. Should I do it? I’m concerned about whether the two versions will work together smoothly.

The process is comparable for 8.1 during the restoration steps.

It seems you're noticing a change in how File History works on Windows 8 and 8.1. The interface has updated to help with restoring data.

It only generates a backup on the external hard drive I own. I'm attempting to recover my files from when I used Windows 7!

Do you recognize this feature? Swipe from the right side of the screen to access it, then search for "Restore your files" in the box. Type the name of the file you need or use arrow keys to explore versions. Choose where you want it restored and tap the restore button. For a different destination, hold or right-click the button, select "Restore To" and pick your new location. For more details, visit the provided link in the file history window.

Let me explore further or ask my buddy—why does your restore method not seem to be working?
